Agra Restaurants and Agra Dining
(Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India, IN)
Agra's many restaurants offer the perfect place to end a hot day and visitors will be able to sample many tasty specialities. For dining with a view, Agra boasts many rooftop restaurants and outdoor terrace areas.
Often overlooking much of the cityscape and parts of the Taj Mahal, restaurants in Agra offer the chance to enjoy Punjab, Bengali and southern Indian cuisine at its best, including 'thalis' (regional Indian meals).
For a quick eat and a good alternative to fast-food restaurants, the countless bazaars around Agra offer many snacks and sweets, such as 'peitha', a local sweet delicacy made with flavoured glucose and pumpkin. Agra is also famous for its 'dalmoth' a tasty version of 'namkin' (spicy nibbles), sesame seed 'gajak' biscuit, and 'chaat', a savoury bun of fried dough, often served from the side of the road.
Agra Restaurants and Dining: Where to Eat - Agra, India, IN
Fine dining abounds in the Taj Ganj area of Agra and although none of the restaurants are actually licensed, they are often close to shops selling alcohol. Many budget rooftop restaurants reside within Taj Ganj, often being filled with twinkling fairy lights at night-time.
Some eateries are even located within thatched huts, serving simple dishes such as creamy kormas, kebabs, burgers, tandoori chicken, traditional Mughal cuisine, burgers, sandwiches, and even English-style fish and chips. Desserts include honey and banana pancakes, 'rawa kesari' (fried coconut and semolina), muffins and exotic fruits.
Bistro-style restaurants can be found within the Sadar Bazaar and also around the Agra Cantonment Train Station, which is known for being a rather salubrious dining area. Gwalior Road is a safe bet for dining and many tourists head to the Dasaprakash, a well-known South Indian restaurant chain with comfortable cubicle-style seating. Further restaurants await along the Taj Road, where you will be able to enjoy many different varieties of 'dosa', a tasty South Indian savoury crepe.
